About Forum-Asia - Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development
About the role
The Business and Human Rights Consultant will lead the planning, implementation, monitoring and reviewing of business and human rights activities across multiple Asian countries. The role involves managing project partners, developing publications and capacity-strengthening programmes, coordinating regional advocacy efforts, and engaging with financial institutions on accountability and rights protection.
Your responsibilities
- Lead the planning, implementation, monitoring, tracking, and reviewing of activities and budgets of project partners in Indonesia, Thailand, Pakistan, Myanmar and the Philippines.
- Support the planning and implementation of activities in other project countries as needed.
- Lead and support the conceptualisation, preparation, implementation, and reporting of FORUM-ASIA’s publications as well as capacity strengthening programmes on business and human rights and right to development.
- Regularly monitor BHR-related developments in the region, especially connected to the work of FORUM-ASIA’s members/partners, and draft statements, press releases and other media outputs as needed.
- Coordinate with FORUM-ASIA, its members and partners in targeted advocacy efforts related to business and human rights and environmental rights.
- Coordinate with other programmes within FORUM-ASIA on common outputs and overlapping workplan activities.
- Assist in the overall monitoring and evaluation of organisational plans and budget according to the Annual Work-Plan and Budget.
- Assist in preparing internal and external periodic narrative reports as needed.
- Assist in engaging with investors, banks, and financial institutions involved in projects impacting rights holders, with the ability to advocate for accountability, remedy, and the protection of rights.
- Any other tasks assigned, according to personal capacity and programme’s needs, including administration, logistics, and documentation work as needed in the team.
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in international relations/political science/development or another relevant field.
- Minimum 3-5 years work experience in the field of human rights and/or environment and climate change in Asia.
- Strong multi-tasking and coordination skills.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Excellent reporting writing and analytical skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing deadlines, and operate with minimal supervision in a multi-cultural team.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with partners and members.
- High level of integrity and discretion, with demonstrated respect for confidentiality when handling sensitive partner, donor, and target groups information.
- Highly self-motivated with a positive attitude, strategic thinking, and multi-tasking skills.
- Demonstrated sound judgment and decision-making abilities, with strong respect for organisational systems, values, and culture, and a collaborative, team-oriented approach, including openness to learning and constructive feedback.
- Preferably able to speak one or more Asian language where FORUM-ASIA has member organisations
